Magnetic Resonance Imaging is a diagnostic equipment that uses a strong magnetic field (like 1.5T, 3T) to make detailed images of the desired body part. It can also scan the whole body. It is a non-invasive test that makes it safe & painless, however, there are some contraindications to MRI.

Ques- Preparation/ pre-requisite for MRI.

Ans-  There is usually no specific requisite, although its good if there is a gap of 1-2 hours after food. For MRCP (MRI of Gall Bladder) needs at least 4 hours fasting.

Ques- What is strictly prohibited?

Ans-  You should not enter the room without supervision, it could be dangerous. You are not allowed to carry anything inside the MRI gantry room.

Ques- What you should bring along?

Ans- You should bring all your old documents, old test records, prescriptions, films etc. to the diagnostic center. MRI is very specific test, bring all documents to get best out of it.

Ques- When I would get my results?

Ans-   Usually results are available in 2 hours’ time frame. But it could increase/decrease depending on the complexity and suspicion. As we have panel of doctors who observe your test before the release.

Ques- Does it involves any injection?

Ans-   May be. IV contrast/sedation is required in less than 5%  of cases.

Ques- Is it safe in pregnancy?

Ans- Right now there is no research paper which shows  pregnancy as absolute contraindication.
